Beginning Again, Again

View of woods in winter with the glimpse of a lake beyond the trees

Well, here I am. Taking stock. Again. Beginning again, again. I find it funny how my path has meandered back to here. To this space. …

  • Birding at the Greenway last week. The weather was lovely.

My youngest added some new birds to her life list that day. She said she's going to do a big year just for birds in our state. It made me smile.

She keeps asking me if I'm doing a big year. I'm not. I told her I'm doing a big life instead.

  • The moon's looking cool tonight! Mars says hello too.
  • I'm excited for this conference. It's virtual, but it's going to be awesome! I can't wait to catch up on the latest in children's and YA lit. #scbwisummer22 #scbwi #amwriting #amillustrating
  • While the kids were swimming in the lake with their friends yesterday, 17 geese decided to join them. Some gracefully walked up to the water's edge, elegantly sipped the lake water, stepped forward purposely, and then glided smoothly onto the water.

Others? Well, they arrived by air, honking and raising a ruckus (possibly saying, "Hey wait for us!" or "Why'd you all sneak off? Was it something we said?") and then made rather quite a splash as they descended to the water's surface to join their pals.

We should have deducted points from their landing scores due to excessive splashing. It was good fun though!

  • These two deer and I had differing opinions this morning about them moving along through the woods so my dogs could go out. 😂 It was awfully nice of them to let me snap some reference photos for a book I'm working on though. I'll finish it one day. #amwriting #amillustrating #natureisamazing #beautyiseverywhere
  • We saw some neat things at the Greenway yesterday. The poison ivy looked beautiful. Truly, it did. We spent forever watching the snake swim across the creek and go back, and we tried to figure out if it was truly a danger noodle or not. We thought for sure it was a danger noodle, but thanks to a friend, we learned today it was just another type of water snake. I think I will just continue assuming they're all danger noodles and giving them plenty of space and not bother them. 😊 #natureisamazing

  • Some more things we saw at the Greenway. A half opened, abandoned ant mound and a mother cow with her calf.
  • We've waited 7 years for this bush to flower. It did not disappoint!
  • Took some reference photos today for azaleas, tulips, and pansies. #flowersmakemehappy #natureisamazing
  • Some of the billboards on newstands we saw on today's Art Pop Walk. We even got to meet some of the artists. So much great local talent. #artpopstreetgalleryclt #QueenCity #CharlotteShout #ArtPopCLT
